Avalanche get tougher, sign Koci

Heading into the offseason if you would have asked Avalanche observers if their lack of toughness was a reason for their terrible record last season most would've laughed at the notion. Evidently the Avalanche braintrust would not have. The team announced Wednesday they had signed unrestricted free agent tough guy David Koci to a one year, $575,000 dollar contract. Koci is a 6'6" winger who is a natural enforcer. In 64 career NHL games Koci has racked up nearly 300 penalty minutes and just 2 points.

Avalanche sign Craig Anderson

The Avalanche have signed unrestricted free agent goaltender Craig Anderson to a two year, $3.6 million dollar contract.

Anderson, 28, was 15-7-5 with Panthers, with a .924 saves percentage, 2.71 goals-against average and three shutouts.

This is a good deal for the Avalanche given their financial restrictions. They sign someone who can be a starter but who will not count a lot against the salary cap.
